Friday, July 13, 2012

A local Gig.U initiative is underway in the Greater Lansing region to provide the type of high-speed Internet access that could provide an abundance of access for students and assist local businesses, and the surrounding community, in enhancing their broadband networks.

Composed of a coalition of partners including the Lansing Area Partnership, the Prima Civitas Foundation, Connect Michigan, Michigan State University, and other regional collaborators, the group held a press conference Thursday to provide program updates and plans for the Gigabit Ready project.

The University Community Next Generation Innovation Project, or Gig.U, is a broad-based group of over 30 research universities from across the United States. Gig. U seeks to accelerate the deployment of ultra high-speed networks to leading U.S. universities and their surrounding communities.
