‘Gig City Gaming’ with CDE Lightband

CDE Lightband launched its gig services in 2013 and has since received great feedback from its residential customers and the commercial industry has proven to be engaged customers as well.  The city of Clarksville has also reportedly seen an influx of individuals and families relocating to the area due to CDE Lightband’s services.

Nashville selected as one of nine finalists for Google’s new fiber gigabit service

Last fall, Nashville was named by Google as one of seven inaugural cities to participate in its Google for Entrepreneurs Tech Hub Network, a new venture the tech giant launched to better connect emerging local tech scenes across the country with each other and with resources at Google. Wednesday’s announcement that Nashville is one of nine finalists for Google's new fiber gigabit service is an affirmation of Nashville's rise as an "IT" city. Google expects to announce which cities move forward with fiber plans later this year.

FCC announces Rural Broadband Experiment Program

The FCC has invited the telecom industry and communities to propose “ways to deliver robust broadband to rural areas” and to seek funding for rural broadband infrastructure projects through the Rural Broadband Experiment Program. As long as the projects are targeted toward rural areas facing access challenges, the FCC will entertain just about any idea for infrastructure funding.

Technology Outlook for 2014

Global spending on technology will rise 6.2 percent in U.S. dollars to $2.22 trillion in 2014, helped by an improving economy and growing interest in areas such as mobility and cloud computing, according to new data from Forrester Research.

Software will account for the largest share of tech spending in 2014, at $568 billion, followed by IT outsourcing at $442 billion, IT consulting and integration services at $421 billion, computer equipment with $416 billion and communications equipment at $373 billion, according to Forrester’s report.
