How FirstNet Will Open Doors for First Responders

By Jessica Denson

In late March, U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced that the First Responder Network Authority will partner with AT&T to build the nationwide, modern, mobile broadband LTE network for first responders. The $46 billion price tag makes it a record-breaking, public-private partnership. Baltimore Fire Chief Niles Ford calls it a “watershed moment.”

“I think FirstNet is going to open a whole lot of doors that we have not had an opportunity to walk through from a technological standpoint,” Ford said. “It’s going to give us an opportunity to be connected to people and circumstances we’ve would have never been and will give us better intel on where our people are. We’ll even have the ability to know their conditions in buildings at certain times.”

Hear why Chief Ford believes FirstNet will be “stratospheric in nature” and help all first responders better serve their communities.
