FirstNet Launches First Developer Program

By Connected Nation

The first developer program of FirstNet and AT&T has launched for America’s emergency responders. It is the force behind innovation in public safety today. The technology will allow public safety to have a private app store. The app store will serve as a “one-stop shop” for reliable solutions for public safety through the FirstNet network.

In FirstNet’s press release, Chris Sambar, senior vice president from AT&T – FirstNet said, “The FirstNet app ecosystem is an important building block as we work to modernize public safety’s communications tools and capabilities.”

“The FirstNet network will bring public safety the connectivity they need to communicate and collaborate. But it’s really what we’re able to build on top of that connectivity that will make the biggest difference in these brave men’s and women’s day-to-day operations.”

Public safety applications for the developer program may include situational awareness, forensic intelligence, in-building mapping, and field reporting. First responders and developers are working together to create mission-specific apps that will give them the exact information they need when they need it. Developers are encouraged to send in app proposals for review for possible certification for public safety official use.

FirstNet CEO Mike Poth says, “We look forward to working with companies, individual developers, and first responders to stock the store’s virtual shelves with fully vetted and highly secure apps to help public safety personnel achieve their mission.”
